I knew Biggie, I knew Pac and I still know Puffy and Faith…. shit I even know Gravy(the guy who portrays BIG in the movie) so my opinion is super bias to timelines/dates, etc…. continuity and such….
so my bias and personal opinion of the film, I didn’t like it. I know it wasn’t super high budget, but there were scenes I thought Gravy actually did a fucking amazing job acting wise especially for being his debut. I thought Angela Bassetts jamaican accent was atrocious for her acting skills, I thought the visuals were good and the overall story was good, but good at best and only at moments. I hate when you are rolling thru 1990 and you are playing slick rick’s childrens story? cmon man, that was 1988. I dunno, that and certain scenes with Pac and such. I thought the casting was off, but I know it’s not easy.
Was it worth the hype? not in my opinion. If you grew up in that era and remember when this was all goin down, then you would understand where I’m coming from. But some people aren’t as critical as myself and maybe just enjoy big’s life being made into a movie and it was a feel good movie for most. I won’t post any real spoilers and stuff, but eh. I coulda waited for DVD for sure. Also, some scenes they used I remember being there at those exact moments and witnessing them first hand, so remember, this is more so Puff’s side of BIG’s story when it comes to the stage, entertainment side of the film…..
at the end of the day…. GOD BLESS THE DEAD. REST IN PEACE CHRIS WALLACE AND MY MAN TUPAC SHAKUR.
